Ian Nurser

I am CEO of Empower Trust, a specialist primary multi academy trust with 8 Shropshire academies. Throughout my career as an NLE, experienced headteacher and Teaching School leader, I have led and promoted innovative approaches to system leadership and school improvement. I have worked across the West Midlands region and at national level as a NCSL Associate.
I am a strong supporter of the benefits of the academy system. I am applying to be a member of the Advisory Board so that I can play an active role in supporting the academy programme to lead a powerful, effective and sustainable school-led system. I truly believe that creating and expanding effective, high quality multi academy trusts can improve the life chances of every child by providing access to the best possible educational opportunities.
If appointed I would consider each academy application carefully and collaborate with colleagues to ensure the right decisions were made in the interests of the children, staff and community.
I believe that my broad professional skills and experience will enable me to make a positive contribution to the team to ensure the future development of strong and effective local MATs to benefit all children across the West Midlands.
