Cassie Buchanan

I lead a cross-phase Multi-Academy Trust in Southwark, South London, after ten years as headteacher of Charles Dickens Primary School and Nursery and 22 years teaching. My school was the first primary to achieve 'outstanding' under the current Ofsted framework.

I enjoy and thrive on partnership work and system leadership, and I want the best outcomes for all pupils in this region. As a National Leader of Education, I have helped smaller Trusts and individual schools across the region to develop sustainable capacity. Until recently, I was also an Ofsted inspector for the South East.

The Charter Schools Educational Trust is home to a DFE Behaviour Hub, EEF Research School, Challenge Partners Hub and London South Teaching School Hub. We have also led DFE projects across the region, including workload reduction, leadership programmes for BAME teachers, and flexible working.

My system leadership work means that I have strong regional and sector knowledge of what works well and where capacity lies. Alongside this, I have experience of membership of other advisory boards and working with DFE teams. I wish to bring this broad knowledge and experience to support the RSC in helping our schools and Trusts thrive over the coming years.
