As the Headteacher of a standalone primary academy, I wish to bring the voice of the little guy to the table (that is mostly occupied by leaders of schools in multi academy trusts). I hope this balanced perspective will be important in determining the right future of some lone schools as they are directed to, or choose to, join a MAT.
I have 24 years headship experience in two schools. My greatest pride comes not from the school having an outstanding grading, but from my regular dressing up activities (Hagrid for the Quidditch tournament, Rafiki in the Lion King performance or Captain Greybeard for the Y1 Pirate Day). These are the things that motivate me and inspire the pupils. Not every MAT would be the right fit for my school to join. Therefore, I believe it is vital that schools join trusts that are the right fit for them and I would endeavour to advocate for this if elected to the Advisory Board.
I would be delighted to offer my experience to a wider role where I can have influence over the life chances and success of greater numbers of pupils.
