Colin Lofthouse

Dear Colleagues,
I have worked for 20 years as a school leader in 4 different local authorities in the north-east. During that time I led a first school, a primary school from special measures to outstanding, and a large maintained two form entry primary. I have worked as an inspector for Ofsted, a SIP and as a headteacher mentor and advisor for many years.
In addition I am a trustee for Schools North East our influential and well respected charity supporting school of all types, so I know the region and its schools very well.
Since becoming CEO for the Smart Trust (8 primary schools) in Newcastle upon Tyne I have been able to experience and shape how a MAT can directly benefit the schools within it. Ethical principles are very important to us and are the foundation of every decision made in our Trust. It works. All of our schools are now highly performing and we have never felt stronger together than through the pandemic, due to our mutual care and support.
If elected I would bring my experience, principles and enthusiasm to ensuring good decisions are made to benefit the pupils and staff in our regions wonderful schools.
