Statement

I have worked as a teacher in the northwest for 35 years, and as a school leader for the last 20 of these. I would like to use the local expertise and knowledge gained from this time to give back and help to improve our region, contributing advice, scrutiny and challenge to the RSC.
I bring a breadth of experience, having always worked in community-focused schools. I have been;
• Headteacher of a local authority maintained school (11-18);
• Principal and SAT CEO of a sponsored academy (11-18);
• Executive Principal (primary-secondary);
• MAT CEO (primary-secondary).
I was the first employee of a SAT, which grew to become a national MAT, including establishing three new schools.
I have wide experience of successful school improvement, which most importantly has been designed and implemented to be sustainable. The schools that I have held responsibility for serve areas with high levels of multiple disadvantages and I believe that values-based academy trusts, investing in their people, can transform outcomes for these communities.
For too long a child’s outcomes have correlated with where they live or their parental/carer income, and my career aim has been to use the power of high-quality education to change this.
