John Morrison

I am currently in my fifth year as Principal of Lincoln UTC (my second headship). I am in the fortunate position of having an exceptionally strong and stable team, such that I have the capacity and the time to 'give something back'. I have spent most of my career in large, 'ordinary' comprehensive schools (North London, Worksop, Wakefield, Gainsborough & Rotherham) including four years as vice principal with the Outwood Grange Academies Trust. My current role and college are far from 'ordinary'. Lincoln UTC is a small, specialist college, though it has doubled in size in the last three years. We have a strong track record of success both in examinations and in helping students secure apprenticeships. In three of the last four years, where data was published, we had the highest Level 3 progress scores in Lincolnshire. Our college is the only UTC to be part of an Institute of Technology. In September 2022 we will be the only provider in the county offering the new T Levels in engineering. What I offer is an understanding of the challenges faced by all schools and an appreciation of the fact that sometimes schools should be allowed to be different.
