Gareth Nelmes

My motivation for the role is to support and develop the sector whilst also developing an understanding of how the AB works. Having worked in Leicestershire since 2007, I feel I can contribute to the AB whilst gaining a better understanding for the broader work across the East Midlands and Humber.
As a Headteacher / NLE who has worked in the LA maintained sector, in a single academy trust and now a multi academy trust, I feel I have a broad overall understanding of Primary and Secondary challenges.
My career started in retail management, then I moved into the teaching profession. In 2007 I moved to Leicestershire as the Head of Gaddesby Primary School which in late 2009 was judged as Outstanding. As an NLE and Headteacher I have supported numerous Leicestershire schools. In 2013/14, supported by our local Head Teacher group, myself and another local Head Teacher set up STEP TSA which was successful for a number of years, developing strong networks across the region. In 2015/16 I led a number of primary and secondary schools into our Trust model, initially starting with 11 schools and academies. Today as CEO, the Trust and I support 16 academies.
